Random SS Day

Image heavy post: best viewed on site

I felt like writing a post this early morn, this 6:24am I can't sleep morn. Then I realized I had nothing awesome to write about. Gone are the days of dozens of notes laying about in such disorganized fashion, since I couldn't remember what was where anyway. Perhaps I should rez that old habit and patch it up a bit to being more useful. *note to self: ignor thoughts about making notes again* Okay, that's settled now.

What we do have today for your random wanderings, is some random screenshots! Aygaren said something about being busy the rest of the weekend, and into the next week, so he offered up a bit of time for the camera.

Go Aygaren!!! The first Horde to reach level 85.

A little Dark Moon Faire fishing with friend Sasche.

Showing off his hard earned DMF mount.

More rare kills for the growing list.

And, after all these years, Aygaren was the one who finally fished up the rat, whom he now calls "Henry", for good reason.

IntPiPoMo: Memory Lane

Both the month and Angelya's Challenge are nearing their end. View more participating bloggers here.

It's been something of a quiet night for me, so I've been out and about the WoW blogging community reading stories. Just sort of chillin' out. During one of these most pleasurable reads, I fell into thoughts of time in game which has passed into history. Hence, this trip down Memory Lane.
During Sol's tour of duty in WotLK, he spent an awful amount of time fishing for this mount. That meant at least a half-hour out of every day of game play, for nearly the total expansion time. That's right, almost the total time of the xpac. As I recall, it was only two or three days before Cataclysm, when he finally came into his own turtle mount. To this day though, the Giant Sewer Rat still eludes him.

Sol did not do this mount grind at level, although it was still the 'old school' grind before all the zone and quest re-vamps. He holds a great amount of respect for those before him who accomplished this feat, at level.

Being the first real character to actually level cap, Sol spent many of his early years simply solo questing. He wasn't all that good at dungeons or battlegrounds, and he didn't really understand that faction reps held good rewards. So it came to be that this Albino Drake is the only drake within his stable of mounts. He earned it in later life out of a love for collecting things.

Sol was a real loner, and still clings to those roots even today. His real home is in Darnassas, and can often be found comtemplating conditions of the world at the Temple of the Moon.

When Sol goes off on various adventures, he can easily find the most secluded of places to camp out for the night.

Sol missed out on many adventures, mostly due to his solitary ways. Kaimara was gracious enough though to bring home every detail of the Wrathgate experience.

Sol is, The Explorer. He has seen many different worlds, before and after.

Everyone has their memories of times past, and thoughts of times present. Let alone, speculations over things which are yet to come. Anyway you look at it though, World of Warcraft is still a great game, still offering so many different ways to play. I still discover new things each time I enter Azeroth.

I hope you've enjoyed Sol's little side-trip down Memory Lane. I trust that it has prompted even more of your own.   ~Sol~

Day Two....of Fifteen

Day Two: Player Houseing "If you were to claim a place to call your own, where would it be and why?"

I'm running a bit slow on Saz's fifteen day screenie challenge, we'll have to blame it on the hunter Khrox. He's been leveling with all the furor of induced beastial wrath since he entered the cata zones. A story for another time though.

Okay, I have bundles of alts spread across several servers so I'm going to stick with the three main characters that see the most game time. Namely; Sol, Khrox and Kaimara. To begin with, there is an extensive amount of great little get-away places, hide outs, cities, farms, mountains, seasides...well, you get the point. Azeroth, and beyond, offer literally thousands of places one would love to call "home." Consequently, a slightly different view was needed here.

Sol, is just Sol. Been a reclusive loner for so long it's in his blood to stay. He's had quite a few thoughts about 'hangin up his staff' for a bit now, and so has been spending some time in deep thought at the Temple of the Moon. Somehow, he always finds his way back here when the ol' head needs clearing. Sol does'nt carry his Explorer title lightly. He aged gracefully earning it the old way, on foot or nightsaber back. This really allowed him to wander off into many unknown places, each with several qualities of life he could easily adapt to. Flight in Azeroth did not really make matters easier, it simply opened up many more possibilities for him to turn over and over again in thought.

In Deep Thought
Kaimara, worldly traveler and independant that she is, may not settle down for quite some time to come. She does like visiting various dignitaries around Azeroth, having her tea and discussing world events with them. Her personal quiet time though, tends to take her to lessor populated spaces, which still offer some of the comforts she indulges herself with.

Kai's Comforts
Khrox is about as wild and carefree as dwarfs come, but he does prefer his outdoorsy lifestyle over any of the cities. We find him today on the outskirts of Kirthaven, inquiring about the availability of some land going for scorched rates. This little offering is nestled in something of a valley next to a mountain ridge. Plenty of room for all his rare pets to roam, and possibly a small griffon hatchery to boot. Mind ye now, he's only looking, and far from ready to settle down.

Hmmm? It could work, maybe.

"15 Days of..." day 1

Saz has set out a challenge on her blog. "Through Your Interface-Fifteen Days of Screenshots" (link to original post)  Drop by for a read and the subjects for each day at her blog and you can check out the comments for more posters.

So, this is Day 1: Favorite Hangout, "Find yourself perching in a particular tree as a druid? Have a certain hovel you like to hang out in on your undead rogue? Show us where it is, and why your character hangs out there."

Sol's Hangout
Sol has obviously been rather reclusive throughout his 85 ages. Other than Darnassass or Moonglade, he dislikes most city life and prefers to find some quiet little out-of-the-way place to stay when he does have to venture in. Stormwind is high on his list of dislikes, but by the powers to be, he must brave an existance there due to the portal island.

Quiet Comfort

Kai's Traveling Hangout Tour
Temple of the Moon
Kaimara, strongly independant, loves traveling the world. She does not call any one place home and will eagerly port to whatever zone strikes her mood at the moment. Sometimes she'll drop in on friends. At other times, she's off to some little known corner to rest and comptemplate world affairs.

And then there's Khrox.

Khrox and new adoption, King Krush
The only "city" Khrox will gladly spend time in is Ironforge. "Nuff said."  Of late though, he's found himself in a balanceing act between Dalaran and Stormwind as daily duties call. Many nights though, he spends camped out in the wilds of Azeroth, or Outland, or Northrend, enjoying a quiet evening by the campfire waiting for some not-so-willing new companion to come along.

Spirit Beast
Both King Krush and the spirit cat were a bit too confident and showed there faces at the same time, and in each others company! Some help from a guild mate was greatly appreciated for the King's adoption.

So, where do your people hang out in Azeroth?

Screenies-or-another compulsive hoarding attraction

Screenies: On the brink of 'Hoarder Compulsion'

Hellfire Skies

Every so often one of my counter-parts will find themselves at a sudden stand still in mid-run or flight, just to take a few moments to enjoy or dive into the awe and splendor of the view before them. For a (ahem..../clears throat) slightly older player, Blizzards' artwork and graphics are amazing. Or perhaps another appropriate term would be "awesomesauce." Such as the above view one first encounters in Outland. I've just loved this since the first day of BC, and every time I'm there, I see it in a different light.

"Count" Ungula
I've collected a few screen-shots over time. Mostly things for memory sake, some little personal project like comparing dps numbers in battlegrounds, etc., etc. Although, I've noticed lately I've been recording something of a history. Re: Khrox's rare pet taming collection efforts. There's also a small collection of Sol's "rare" status kills. And then there's his occasional companion pet or mount he adopted. Little things really, but a noticeable trend none-the-less. Like when Sol first started collecting the Tourney heirlooms for the alt kids. Some of it looked awesome enough on them that they screamed "Screenshot!"

So I've come to the realization that I am teetering on the brink of becoming an official "Hoarder." To such an extent that I even research new possibilities for various collections and avidly read about other players experiences. Sometimes, I even to find myself sub-consiously watching/camping or searching for some elusive beast or pet, while traveling through quest lines. And I must admit that with the availability of Azeroth flight now, bouncing all over the world is so much easier.

Just what sparked this realization of being a "closet hoarder?" Surely it was a culmination of several things. But I would really have to tag Saz (World of Saz), for prompting this post. Her most recent and in-depth 5-part series on mini-pets, "Hoarders: Azeroth Edition", is likened to a virtual gold mine for me. Yes, another compulsion to add to my growing list. I'm compulsive about quest story-lines (the lore of it all), odd companion pets that do little more than look cute and adorable, somewhat un-usual mounts, rare pets, rare kills, alts, and those little personal accomplishments in game, achievements. Am I obsessing over this? Well, perhaps not too far from it :)

So really now. What's your little hidden "compulsive hoarder within" up to these days? I think that most everyone probably has at least one thing they hoard in game, even if it's reaching that astounding gold cap. Admit it. You've got something. It's okay. This 'ol Night Elf will pat you on the back and offer comfort.

Zangarmarsh residents go Tourist Friendly!

Khrox has actually leveled quite fast. Eight zones worth of quests, and already in Outland. Seems like only yesterday he was but a twinkle in someones' thoughts.

Today's screenie though, is all about the tourist friendly Umbrafen Eels, who've decided to make themselves available for those odd "photo, please" adventurers. Enjoy.

Khrox'a rare pet photo collection album is just getting under way, but he's promised to update it soon. If you'd like visit from time to time here's the picasa web url:

Who am I to ...

Did you ever get the feeling that you are but one small, yet significant part in the cycle of all things?
And I had to go out and kill some really big-bad-uglies for them?

The View from Above

Cataclysym has brung a seemingly endless expanse of changes to our world. So many, that I would have doubts if any one player is able to experience all of them. Some are quite drastic and evident, even from a distance. Others are subtle, they kind of sneak up on you from the rear and tap your shoulder in one of those "I got you" shock waves.

One very grateful surprise, especially for an addicted explorer, is the newly trained old world and Cata flying ability. To roam about at will, to forge into the little or unknown nooks and crannys slightly hidden away from all the mainstay quest lines. To be able to see things from a totally different perspective, the "View from Above."

These are the thoughts Sol had during a recent Kilimdor zone jumping exercise in archeology exploration. What first caught his eye, was Southshore. It was a terrible quest hub for him back then, what with the constant ganking and daily shut-down, literally. Horde would totally wipe out everything including the NPC's. Now, Southshore lies in ruins. Enjoy this little Hillsbrad tour. Perhaps it'll bring back some memories for you as well.
